The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary is passionate about educating the public on the importance of donkey welfare and the charity’s worldwide work. We want to inspire the next generation of donkey carers and do this by having a dedicated education team who provide a wide variety of learning opportunities that can be tailored to the specific abilities and interests of visiting groups. On their visit to the Sanctuary, groups including schools, Scouts and Guides, nurseries and youth groups have the opportunity to get to know our specially trained team of donkeys who have lots of experience of working with children.

Quay House Visitor Centre

The history and development of Exeter’s Quayside is brought to life with lively display, illustrations and artefacts. This former warehouse was built during the golden age of Exeter’s thriving woollen cloth industry in 1680. As well as models and items from the cloth industry such as “tenter hooks and tillet blocks”, an exciting audiovisual presentation “Exeter, 2000 years of history” highlights Exeter’s history from Roman times until today.

Powderham Castle

We are thrilled to have successfully been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to renovate the Victorian Kitchens and Servants Hall for visitors and school groups. For the first time, the story of ordinary people who worked in the Earl's household will be told. The household continues to be made up of people like us living in the local area. The project is an opportunity for the people who worked so hard during the Victorian era to receive recognition and to celebrate our shared heritage.

Escot Education Centre

Escot's education effort revolves around our Education Ranger.  Escot has unrivalled facilities for a wide range of educational activities and every year thousands of children and more mature students take advantage of them.

Activities range from Ph D to Primary and cater for a wide range of differing abilities.  Whether it's a field trip to study the water meadows and river conservation techniques, or a swamp walk and hose down (!), Escot's matchless setting together with the support of the Greenwood Centre staff are available to cover most requirements.

In addition to purely educational needs, Escot's education parties bridge the gap between lessons and pleasure: they make learning fun! These are particularly popular as a way of filling children's time during the holidays and they tend to be fully booked well in advance.
